What is big writing?

Or, what am I doing with this blog? A fine question!

Since Google Reader is cutting its social features, I need somewhere to post all of the interesting text- and language-related stuff that I come across on the Internet. Most of that stuff falls into a genre I call “big writing” (loosely analogous to “big games”)—projects, pieces, installations, poems, and websites that are based on the written word, but exploded somehow—reaching off the printed page and into unexpected realms.

More about me: I’m Adam Parrish. I’m a computer programmer who works in social and mobile technology; I’m also an experimental writer. I teach a course called Reading and Writing Electronic Text at NYU’s Interactive Telecommunications Program. Nice to meet you! Let’s get started.
